The end of the second stage of the Biedronka award for the children's book Piórko 2020 was announced by the chain of stores in an unusual way. The winner of the "Illustrations" category of this year's Piórka, Magdalena Starowicz, received a check for PLN 100,000 from Biedronka. The book cover she designed was used on a mural unveiled in Warsaw's Powiśle. The mural is unique because it is painted with paints that purify the air from smog.
"Piórko. Biedronka Award for Children's Books" is a competition for debutants, which has its sixth edition this year. The book "About Malwina and the Mystery of Grandpa's Cellar", which is the result competition, will hit Biedronka stores nationwide on November 16. However, Warsaw residents will know from October 27 what the cover of her book "About Malwina and the Secret of Grandpa's Cellar" will look like, as well as the main character of the story "About Malwina and the Secret of Grandpa's Cellar". This is due to the mural that appeared on the Łazienkowska Route on the wall of the building at Przemysłowa Street 31/33. It was designed by Magdalena Starowicz, who is also the winner of this year's Piórka in the "Illustrations" category. The mural with the cover of the book Piórka was created in an unusual way. Catalytic paints were used to create it. In short, this means that under the influence of light, the paints purify the air of harmful substances. This ecological effect lasts for years.
This activity in the urban space is the beginning of a promotional campaign related to the entry into stores of the latest children's book published by Biedronka as part of the Piórko competition. Let us recall that the author of the text of this year's winning book is Agnieszka Syczyło, who also won a prize of PLN 100,000. From November 16, books by the winners of previous editions will also be available for sale, i.e. the favorite among children and parents "Szary domek", as well as popular among the youngest: "Córka bajarza", "Nieustraszony Strach na Wróble", "Mały Saj i wielkie przygody" and "O królewiczu, który się odwołę". In total, over the five years, Biedronka has already sold approx. 235 thousand books from all previous editions of Piórek. For years, Biedronka has been developing its reading offer, with which it reaches the farthest corners of Poland at affordable prices.
