Cooperation with CARITAS

The long-term cooperation between the Biedronka network and Caritas Polska, which together implement, among others, the “For Everyday Shopping” program, shows how to effectively help the elderly on a daily basis.

In 2019, for the second time, Biedronka allocated over PLN 10 million as part of a financial support program for people over 60. Over 6,600 people in need received PLN 150 per month for shopping at Biedronka. From March to December, these funds were transferred to a special prepaid card "For everyday shopping", and beneficiaries could spend them independently. The program is addressed to older people in difficult life situations - often living in poverty, lonely or disabled. They are qualified for the program by diocesan branches of Caritas. Seniors are also provided with volunteer support during shopping. Seniors can also participate in various meetings and activities, thanks to which they get a chance to cope with the loneliness and hardships of everyday life that often bother them.

A unique collaboration
Biedronka has been cooperating with Caritas in Poland since 2006, also in organizing family festivals "Bądźmy razem". Every year, it provides around 70,000 packages for children on Children's Day, St. Nicholas Day, and the Day of the Sick. On a daily basis, it cooperates with Caritas dioceses, providing food to those in need from almost 800 stores to 27 organizations as part of the "Caritas Pantry". It also co-financed the purchase of several refrigerated trucks for transporting food and supports the holiday food collections "Tak, pomagam" and "Kromka chleba dla bliskoa" (approximately 600 tons per year). This year, for its cooperation with Caritas Poland, Biedronka was awarded the title of the winner of the competition Benefactor of the Year.
